Among a line of notebooks, we can generally spot an Acer notebook without much difficulty and this is because of its attractive, nouveau and unique design. But then, this time Acer has disappointed its users because this Acer aspire 5742 is anything but stylish. With a very simple design, you might wonder what the advantage of this notebook is over its own siblings and the other counterparts too. But then there is something really attractive about this particular model and that is the price. This model is one of the least expensive of the notebooks offering similar decent specifications. Read further to find out if this cheap priced model really does make a mark for itself.

Design and Keyboard:

The Acer aspire 5742 notebook is one that carries a very plain design with a matte outer cover. Now the matte outer cover means two things, one, it saves the users from cleaning the notebook every now and then that happens in the case of glossy notebooks, because matte notebooks are always finger print resistant. Secondly, this notebook lacks the shining look or the glow, as we can put it, due to the plain black matte look. Moreover, the design is also nothing special having seen the seashell and other such attractively designed products earlier from the same Acer. However, this time Acer has given more importance to certain main features like the processor and the OS. This Aspire 5742 15.6 inch notebook has a resolution of 1366 x 768p which is excellent for a notebook of this size. Big screens always require higher resolution. LED backlit is present in most of the notebooks these days, including this one too. This backlit becomes very useful when we are in dark room. The viewing angles are good as the notebook can bend pretty decently without reduction in the clarity of the contents displayed on the screen.

Acer is probably not interested in producing ultra-portable notebooks because this one is not really thin or light weighted. The dimensions of the notebook are 381 mm in width, 253 and 34 mm in depth and height respectively. Weighing nearly 2.6Kg, this notebook has all its ports distributed on the left and right sides. The 15.6 inch screen is a WXGA Active matrix TFT color LCD type of screen and this wide screen fares really well while watching movies or videos. This black color notebook does a good job in terms of picture quality as the images are delivered accurately with sharpness. Moving on to the keyboard, acer has adopted the chiclet style or the scramble type keyboard where the keys are isolated by little space from each other. The island type of keyboard looks really pretty and there is the integrated numeric keypad too. Moreover, the keys are well designed to provide a good response.

Touch Pad:

The Touchpad of this notebook is one that has a single button for left and right button operations of the mouse and mainly, supports multi-touch features. The most common multi-touch features are available in this notebook, like the swiping and zooming actions. We would not say this is a good or the best Touchpad ever in the market because it has little flaws which are realizable when working with it, but considering its price, it is tolerable.

Ports:

The Acer Aspire 5742 15.6 inch notebook has ports spaced out on both the left and right sides. The left side has little space for fan vent to eject the heat out, VGA, the RJ45 Ethernet port, HDMI port, USB port and the headphone and microphone jack. The right side includes the two USB 2.0 ports placed next to each other and then there is the DVD multi drive capable of playing any movie or video in the 15.6 inch LED backlit LCD screen. The VGA helps for external monitor connectivity and might be really useful for some. There are three USB ports and this is great for a comparatively cheap priced notebook.

Processor, Memory and OS:

For a price that this notebook is offered at, you would be stunned to know the processor that it comes with, the Intel Core i3. Core processors are not generally a part of the spec for the notebooks of this very cheap price range. However, the fact that this aspire 5742 notebook does come with the 2.4GHz processor that can work with a number of applications at a very good speed thus making multi-tasking an enjoyable experience. The 3GB RAM and 250GB hard drive capacity might not be an exciting inclusion for there are notebooks in the market that offer nearly double the amount of hard drive capacity, but then again, the notebook is less expensive and hence it is good. The 5742 notebook runs on the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS and this is one of the recent software systems available in the market that has a good interface. The excellent processor and the laudable OS are what that adds value to the plain and simple looking product.

Connectivity:

Connectivity plays a very important role these days. Even if we forget to pack our clothes in the bag, we never forget to take our laptops or notebooks with us, because these notebooks not only help us to carry on with our works while we are traveling, it also helps us to stay connected with anyone around the world by providing access to the current world’s mantra, the Internet. You can stay connected and chat endlessly or google search for all that you want to know in two ways, the wired or wireless connection. Wired connection can be achieved with the help of the RJ45 ethernet port while the wireless connection is possible with the WLAN 802.11 b/g/n. The world of internet is made even more interesting with the help of the 1.3MP camera on the top bezel of the screen, the microphone and the speakers. The users can watch videos of their choice from you tube, or download their favorite movies from the reliable sites in the internet. However, the speakers of this 15.6 inch notebook are really poor in that they do not produce good quality sound which makes the audio unclear. Still, Acer has tried to give its best that can be afforded at an unimaginably less rate.

Battery Efficiency:

For a very less expensive notebook that runs on 6 cell rechargeable Lithium ion battery, expectations should not be really high. So with that in mind, you should be satisfied to hear that this Aspire 5742 model dies out in nearly 3 and half hours when you crush it with too many works particularly when most of them pertained to the straining multimedia stream or when watching movies on that sufficiently big 15.6 inch screen. However the battery might run for a time little longer than this if all that the user does with the notebook is a light and harmless browsing or working with the applications that do not drain the battery away. This notebook therefore does not come with a battery life that makes us recommend it for those who crave for the longevity of it.

Graphics and Performance:

At a very reasonable price, Acer must be one of the few companies that offer the Intel GT420M graphic processor. But alas, it is integrated and hence the memory has to be shared. So obviously, this notebook is not the one for the gamers, but it is not disappointing for those who play games that do not require a lot of space and time from the processor. As said earlier, the notebook’s audio performance is badly affected by the speaker. But the video quality is good indeed.

Warranty:

The warranty period of the Acer Aspire 5742 is standard one year.

Verdict:

Generally some compromise has to be made when the price is made lower. In the case of this Aspire 5742, though few of its features are in the mid-line, two features are prominently on the worse side. If one compromise is its plain design, the other is the poor performance of the speakers. The battery life is not really excellent. But then, if you are still keen that budget and performance are all that matters to you, then this product would definitely be a good choice since the notebook unfolds a Core i3 processor and integrated Intel graphics which can be put to use on a wide 15.6 inch screen. So if you are a person who is searching for a notebook with just two keywords, cheap and good performer, then you might probably find this one. For others however, this notebook would not even be in your search list.

The Lenovo Thinkpad series of notebooks are those that are aimed at business users who are in need of a notebook that would be efficient, witty and at the same time modern. Here, by modern, we mean its specifications and not the design. The Thinkpad T410 notebook has an elderly and bygone design. But then the stuff inside is one of the recent and latest versions that any notebook can hold. This particular notebook bears striking resemblance to the T400 notebook externally though the difference is large to be counted considering their specifications. The T series notebooks come with features that are valued high among the consumers. More about the Lenovo Thinkpad T410 notebook follows here.

The overall design:

The Lenovo T410 14.1 inch notebook is nothing but antic in appearance. It has the age old looks that would not be preferred among the younger generation who always take pride in carrying a modern laptop with amazing looks. But then, as the saying goes, it is the inner beauty that matters more, the T410 might not look attractive at first sight, but then its specifications would immediately bring smiles on the faces. The notebook is basically made of ABS plastic. But, this plastic design does not make the machine look cheaper. On the contrary, it is sturdy and well built. The ergonomically designed keyboard houses the keys in a way similar to all the Thinkpad models. The users can make use of the function keys present at the very top position of the keyboard for specific functions. The keys are very closely spaced with a prominently visible blue color enter key. The users can work either with the touchpad or the pointing stick for the mouse operations. The touchpad has raised dots on its surface and offers multi-touch facilities that include the three or four fingers for swiping or zooming action. This energy efficient good performer encompasses more when it is studied deeper.

Display, Audio and Video Features:

The T410 notebook, as said earlier, is a 14.1 inch notebook with a WXGA+ screen. The 1400 x 900p screen resolution obviously implies the clarity of the pictures and videos that appear on the LED Backlit screen. However, there is no noticeable improvement in the video performance of the t410 over the t400. The dimensions of this notebook are about 21.1 x 337 x 241.5 mm for a notebook with 6-cell battery and it weighs about 1.77 Kg on the minimum side. The viewing angles are good. The speakers are present on the keyboard at the two sides and these stereo speakers present themselves in a decent manner though they do not pose a prolific show.

For budget people:

This T410 notebook is quite expensive compared to its HP and other such counterparts who offer similar features at a very nominal rate that appeal to all the users. However for those who love the uniqueness of this thinkpad notebook, it definitely deserves the cost. So those who check their pockets before purchasing the product do not get disappointed because the notebook is worth it.

Processor, OS and Memory:

The 4GB of RAM and 320GB of hard drive capacity imply that these specs are good enough for any business user or for home use. The 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium is the operating system that goes with this model. The major attraction towards this Lenovo thinkpad is its processor. This notebook comes with an Intel Core-i5 processor with a speed of 2.53GHz. The core processors are known for their fast operation of the jobs in queue and also the ability to handle multi-tasking efficiently. Therefore the users can effectively work on many applications at a time and still do not have to wait.

Internal and External Connectivity:

The internal connectivity includes the list of the ports that are present on the notebook while the external connectivity implies the network connectivity for global connection. To enhance the audio and video features, there are few ports on the right, left, front and rear side of the notebook. The most important AC power port and the modem port for connectivity fill up the rear portion of the notebook. These two ports play a vital role. It is the ports that are present in this notebook that distinguish it from the T400 or other T series of Lenovo. The differences are brought about by the 5-in-1 SDHC card reader in the front, the display and VGA-out ports, three USB ports and a smart card reader in the left. The 34mm Express card slot, eSATA, audio in/out combo, DVD RW drive, another USB, firewire and kensington lock port on the right also influence the value of the notebook to a great extent. This distribution of the ports on all the sides of the notebook provides good space for each port and this machine has all the ports that can be expected from a notebook. With the eSATA port the users can easily transfer data at a very fast rate. With the optical drive the users can endlessly watch movies or videos of their choice.

While these form the list of internal connectivity features, the Wireless WLAN 802.11 b/g/n and bluetooth facilitates connection for the users worldwide and helps them stay connected to the Internet thereby providing full access to the world outside the four walls that surround us.

Graphics:

The Intel HD integrated type uses the NVIDIA Optimus technology for providing better performance. But the integrated system always has its disadvantage; it has to work with the CPU’s memory. Therefore it is not really as efficient as the dedicated graphics. So game freaks might not prefer this notebook since it does not satisfy their criteria.

Heat, Noise and Energy Efficiency:

The notebook is not really hot. However, it is not advisable to keep it on the lap because some amount of hotness can definitely be felt because of the heat emanated from the bottom side of the notebook. The quantity of heat radiated from the keyboard and touc-hpad areas are not really high. This 14 inch notebook is not really noisy and is tolerable. The Lenovo Thinkpad T410 notebook is energy star qualified which means that it is energy efficient. It can be safely used without any fear of affecting the nature and the environment around us.

Battery:

The Lenovo Thinkpad T410 Laptop comes with a 6 cell battery. The battery lasts for nearly 6 hours after charging and is thus a good performer in this category. The battery life may however vary within this range depending on the type of application and software the OS works on. For instance, gamers must be aware that the battery life will not be the same time but would reduce accordingly. If you are in need of a longer life, then you can opt for the 9 cell battery too, though it is important to note here that with the 6 cell pack itself, it slightly protrudes at the back.

Support:

Lenovo provides the usual 1 year warranty for services of parts and labor. This time period can however be extended to 3years warranty by buying it from the depot or on-site.

Verdict:

To sum up, the T410 notebook may not have a modern outlook, but it has all the features that can be expected from any notebook. The price tag is quite high though. It has all the ports and gives a good audio and video performance. The battery life is also satisfactory. So given its odds and evens, it can be written in the list of recommended notebooks.

It is long since small devices called laptops replaced the big space occupying Desktop PCs and even longer since people were musing about being able to place these electronic devices on our lap and work on them. Now, these notebooks have seen tremendous improvement and they have been categorized separately with special and different features for home users and for business people. The Dell Vostro notebooks are those aimed at small business users and this notebook draws a very small line of difference between the personal laptops and those specially designed for business officials. These vostro notebooks differ slightly in certain features and aspects, from the Inspiron series. While the latter is best suited for home environment, the former prefers office surroundings. This notebook, the Vostro 3300 has a neat look with pretty nice features. Read our review on the Dell Vostro 3300 notebook to know if this would suit you.

Design:

The Dell Vostro 3300 is a 13.3 inch notebook that has a professional look with neat design. It is available in three different colours, Aberdeen Silver, Lucerne Red and Brisbane Bronze. All the three colors are really cool and a pleasing sight to the eyes. The outer cover of the notebook is made of aluminium and that casing gives a dignified look. The special feature of the notebook is the “anti-glare” screen. The screen is not at all glossy and this means that the viewing angles are wider than those of the glaring screens and the notebook can be used even in a room where sunlight floods in. The notebook is quite flexible.

The notebook weighs nearly 1.94Kg with the 4 cell battery. The width and depth of the notebook are 325 mm and 229 mm. The height of the notebook varies from 20.1 ~ 28.6 mm. This notebook is quite light and easy to carry. Hence the notebook is portable and can be used for any purpose whenever required. The native resolution of the screen is nearly 1366 x 768p and that is really nice for a 13 inch notebook. The screen is of the Widescreen High Definition type which means that the users can watch HD videos or with good clarity in this notebook. So this vostro product when carried in hand would receive positive comments and would definitely make you feel proud.

Keyboard:

The keyboard of the Vostro 3300 13.3″ Laptop is a normal full sized keyboard. The keys are really big and that means typing would be really easy. The keyboard has an integrated numeric keypad too. Some of the important controls like volume, forward and rewind buttons are present above the keyboard. There is an option to choose backlit keyboard because some might be fond of the backlit type while there would be few who really detest the light. The full size keyboard not only ensures good size for the keys but also makes typing a simple task.

Touch Pad:

The touchpad is a smooth area which allows us to use the standard multi-touch gestures. These gestures include the flipping, pinching and swiping of the photos. These multi touch gestures are applicable for the web pages too. The touchpad has two buttons for the left and right mouse controls and they work well at a touch without causing much trouble.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The 2.0 MP camera is present on the top bezel of the screen that is matte along with the integrated digital array microphones. The speaker is integrated and the sound quality is pretty decent. The 2 MP camera is really good in delivering clear images and videos, so video conferencing would be quite easy now.

Ports:

The ports in this notebook are present with good spacing from each other and these ports take up the place on the front and both the sides of the notebook. On the right are present, the lock port, fan vent, VGA, USB 2.0/eSATA combo port and an USB 2.0 port. On the front, the ports are neatly present, an Express Card Slot – 34mm, microphone and headphone jack, a switch kind of thing for using the wireless connectivity, 5-in-1 card reader and the power button. The DVD drive, HDMI, USB 2.0 port and the power button are present on the left. This distribution of the ports means that the users would have no trouble while using more than one port at a time.

This notebook does not have a HDMI Port, so, sad news for those who use the notebooks not only for their official matter, but also use it for watching movies and stuff in the TV, because you can no longer connect your notebook to the TV. However, the users can connect to the external monitor using the VGA port. This vostro notebook has nearly 2 USB 2.0 ports plus 1 eSATA/USB combo port. The presence of eSATA port means that the users can easily transfer the data at a very fast rate. Photos taken at the office meetings or conferences in your digital camera can be easily transferred to your notebook with the help of the 5-in-1 card reader that can read the data from SD, SDHC and the like. The optical drive could be very useful when we have the soft copy of our projects in CDs or DVDs and all we have to do is to spin the disc into the drive and you can either read or write the contents from/to the disc. If you have got very confidential files in your notebook, then Dell offers the finger print reader for good security. However, this is optional and is applicable to those who are interested in safeguarding their valuable data.

Processor, Memory and OS:

The Dell 3300 notebook computer comes with the common Intel core processor. The users can choose the processor of their choice, either the i3 or i5. Both the processors are really good in speed and efficiently manage multi-tasks. The notebook comes pre-installed with the Windows Home Premium 32 bit, but the 64 bit can also be chosen. The RAM memory is basically 3GB but can be extended upto a maximum of 6GB. Similarly the hard drive capacity can be extended from 250GB to nearly 500GB. Thus based upon the budget and requirement of the user, the choice can be made.

Connectivity:

This 13 inch notebook comes with both the wired and wireless connectivity. The wired connection is achieved by connecting the LAN port to the plug and for the wireless connection, there is the WLAN 802.11 b/g/n. With both the connections, the whole globe is in their hands now. So you can not only browse the Internet for important details, but now with this 13.3 inch notebook, you can skype chat with your officials who are far away too.

Battery:

The Dell Vostro 3300’s disaster is in its battery. To make the notebook thin and light weighted, Dell has compromised the number of cells in the battery. This 13 inch notebook comes only with a 4 cell Lithium ion battery. However, it can be extended to an 8 cell battery, at an additional cost though. The battery life lasts for two hours and few minutes which is terrible. However it might extend for few extra minutes if the usage is minimal while it even goes less than that at times. This less number of hours of survival results in people thinking twice to buy the product because the notebook would not be of much use while traveling. However, the addition of four more cells is the right solution. The extra cells would protrude at the back, making it uncomfortable to work on, for some. The Vostro 3300 notebook can be given only a “Needs Improvement” grade in terms of its battery!

Performance:

The performance level of the Dell Vostro 3300 notebook is really good. With a good processor that can do the task managing efficiently, there can be no possible problems. The notebook has the HM57 chipset with integrated NVidia graphics set. It does not have dedicated graphics and this means that it is not really a “gaming notebook”. However the performance of this notebook is good for the money spent by the small business users.

Warranty:

Dell laptops or any laptop in general, offer one year of International Warranty during which time, the company bears the services for the parts and labor of the purchased notebook.

Verdict:

“Vostro” is an Italian word that means “Your” or “Belonging to You”. So, if you are a developing business magnet that needs a neat professional notebook that would duly perform the assigned tasks, then this Dell Vostro 3300 is a good choice. For others, there might be other good offers for you to consider, but for you to note, this notebook is actually a budgeted one, that definitely would suit all the business buddies.

Acer notebooks are those notable for their stylish appearance and decent performance. They may not be powerful stunners like the Apple or Dell, but these Acer notebooks have a uniqueness engraved on them. The aspire series particularly are decent and they are seriously worth the money spent on them. This Acer 5552 is a 15.6 inch notebook that has the price as its highlight. The notebook is offered at a very less price considering the current market trend and comparing its features to that of the others in the same range. The notebook has many points to add to its inventory. The detailed description of the Acer aspire 5552 notebook follows.

Design:

The notebook is neatly packed in a rectangular box that itself is contained within a box along with the other accessories like the manual and charger. The 5552 notebook might not be an exquisite beauty but this piece definitely has its standard Acer looks. By acer looks, we mean that the product has good attractive design that is both simple as well as pleasing to the eyes. The Acer 5552 is a 15.6 inch screen with a native resolution of 1366 x 768p. This must be an excellent piece of news for the users because they can watch their favorite HD movies and videos at the best resolution possible right in their notebook. All gamers would also be happy to hear the resolution of this notebook because they can play with all the effects. The viewing angles are not very bad and can be managed pretty decently due to the aid of the LED backlighting of the screen.

The weight of this 15 inch acer notebook is about 2.6 Kg which means it is slightly heavy but not for a 15.6 inch notebook. With a width of 381 mm, depth of 253 mm and height of nearly 34 mm, the notebook proves to be a portable notebook indeed, though not ultra-portable. For those who travel often, this notebook would definitely be useful. The screen is of LCD type and it is quite glossy. The machine is made of plastic and carries with it an appearance that neither makes it posh nor cheap. Since the notebook is of matte type, finger prints bear no effect on the notebook and you can be free of frequent dusting. However, matte always lacks the richness of the glossiness. The Acer aspire 5552 notebook is a 15.6 notebook with perfect looks that qualify really well for the money.

Keyboard:

The chiclet style adopted for the keyboard of the Acer aspire 5552 notebook is a big hit. The numeric keypad is integrated and the sizes of the keys are really good. The users would not have any trouble while typing. Above and below and the keyboard are few LEDs. For instance, there are two LEDs on top, one for power and other for Wi-Fi indication next to the big power button. There are two other LEDs below the keyboard too.

Touch Pad:

A small area below the keyboard separated from the rest of the palm rest area is called the touch pad or the track pad. This notebook has a single mouse button for doing the right and left mouse buttons. There is a scroll bar at the right corner for vertical scrolling. This touchpad is multi-touch enabled which means that the users can try all the pinching, flipping and zooming options with their photos.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The 1.3 MP camera is on the top bezel of the screen with a microphone present next to it. The stereo speakers are right above the keyboard and the sound quality is truly good. With the microphone, camera and speaker the users can communicate with anyone they wish to, with just the notebook and internet connectivity.

Ports:

On the front, right and left sides, the ports of the Acer 5552 15.6″ notebook get distributed. On the left, the power, fan vent, 15 pin VGA, RJ45 ethernet, HDMI, USB 2.0 port, microphone jack and the headphone jack are present. The 2-in-1 multi card reader is on the front and this reader can read the data from the cards of the type Secure Digital(SD) and MultiMedia Cards. The right side includes two USB 2.0 ports, a dual layer DVD drive and the kensington lock port. The native resolution of the notebook itself is 1366 x 768p that delivers HD movies well on the screen and the movie watching time can be further enhanced by using the HDMI port. The VGA port helps for connecting the notebook to an external monitor thereby sharing the files and data to and from one another. Now the dual layer dvd drive is present and though this is adequate for this model, it should be noted that the drive does not read or write blue ray or 3D discs. There are a total of 3 USB 2.0 ports, two of which are present side by side on the right and this makes it easy for the users to plug in three USB drives at the same time. The notebook does not include an Express card slot. But that is not a big deal considering its price. Of the three USB ports, acer could have chosen atleast one eSATA port for easy and quick transfer. However, the users would definitely be content with what it offers.

Processor, Memory and OS:

Acer had decided to cancel out the Intel processor for this 5552 model and decided to go in for the AMD processor and so the Athlon II P320 dual core came to drive this notebook. The fact that this is a dual core processor makes it evident that managing multi-tasks will be no longer an arduous one. But then the buyers should be aware that this one would not be as efficient as the Intel core processors. But the Athlon P320 is indeed good enough for a budget model. This notebook comes with a 3GB RAM which can be further extended to an 8GB. The hard drive capacity is basically 320GB. However, the 5552 also has models that go with a 640GB hard drive. Windows is a common word not only in a house but also in the technical world. The Windows is the most commonly used operating system that the notebooks take up and this acer 5552 notebook uses the Windows 7 Home Premium version. These specs suffice a budget notebook really well.

Connectivity:

The Acer 5552 Laptop contains both wired and wireless connectivity. The RJ45 port would just be the right one for providing the wired access to the internet. The wireless connection can be achieved with the Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. The speed is pretty good and needless to say, the users can use this internet endlessly for any purpose they require, right from simple browsing to chatting and even more. The notebook does not include a bluetooth, sad for those who like this connectivity, but basically bluetooth is not very vital since we do not use it very often. So good high speed connectivity for a notebook that is offered at a reasonable price.

Battery:

The 6 cell Lithium battery packed with the Acer 5552 notebook is a rechargeable one that has a life for nearly 3 hours only if you are lucky enough. Most of the times, the notebook does not survive for more than two hours and few minutes, particularly when you are gaming or handling so many tasks at the same time. The battery does not protrude much at the back which makes it comfortable for the users. The battery life could have been better and Acer should have worked on this.

Performance:

The Acer Aspire 5552 notebook would have caused much expectation from the users when the product’s price was unknown. But then, naturally, it would have subsided when the price came to view. This notebook is not a stunning performer that leaves people awestruck, but then this one manages almost all the tasks efficiently without giving the users trouble. This notebook might not be the right choice for the gamers because it supports only integrated graphics ATI Mobility Radeon and not dedicated one. But most of the notebooks support integrated type only. This notebook is definitely a good companion for those who use the notebook for all day to day activities right from browsing to watching movies.

Warranty:

The warranty for this Acer aspire 5552 notebook is the same 1 year International Traveler’s Warranty that includes both the services and labor.

Verdict:

The Acer Aspire 5552 notebook is a budget model notebook that excels the performance of the notebooks of the same price range. It has a 15.6 inch screen, good number of ports and neat design. For those who are on the search for a notebook that constraints their pockets and also gives them a standard device, then this Acer Aspire 5552 notebook is a great choice indeed.

The Toshiba Satellite L670 is a notebook that has not only a super large screen but also comes packed with super good features. The satellite notebooks from Toshiba have a wide range of products and they are particularly known for their standard quality. This Satellite L670 is a wide-screen notebook that serves as a desktop replacement. Its biggest asset is the huge 17.3 inch screen. Such a big screen size is a great advantage for all the movie crazies and the gamers as they can comfortably watch or play their favorite videos and games on such a big screen. The Japan manufacturer Toshiba has been coming out with newer technologies and interesting products every time with good improvement and it claims this product to be suitable for “every day computing”. The L670 is only a 2D notebook with some very interesting unique features implemented by Toshiba, to name a few, the Bulletin Board and the Reel Time. The product comes in a very affordable price range. For all those who think twice before spending their money, read our review on the Toshiba Satellite L670 to check whether this is worth your entire penny.

Design:

Open up the package of L670 and you would find yourself staring at the big glossy notebook that has a stylish and decent looks. The Satellite L670 Laptop Notebook looks very neat and carries a dignified appearance and has shows no indication that it is a cheap priced notebook. The entire notebook is glossy and since the degree of glossiness is directly proportional to the attraction towards the finger prints that even a light touch on the notebook would be clearly visible. Also, the glossiness shows its effects when there is sunlight in the room making it difficult for you to catch what is on the screen. The viewing angles are quite good, good as long as there is less sunlight in the room. The notebook is 17.3 inch one weighing nearly 2.8 Kg. This weight is adequate for a notebook of this size but this weight implies that the notebook is not really ultra-portable and not light enough to be carried everywhere.

Basically this notebook comes in precious black color and measures 413.6 mm in width, depth of 270 mm and a height of 28 mm. The screen is HD Trubrite TFT LED display and this display is quite common among most of the Toshiba Satellite notebooks. The basic resolution of the screen is about 1600 x 900p. This resolution is sufficient for a 17.3 inch screen but then, a 1080p resolution would have been very much appreciated. The aspect ratio is 16:9 as in any notebook and the screen has LED backlighting which comes in very handy when you are in dark rooms with no light to support your vision.

Keyboard:

The keyboard of the Satellite L670 is a normal one with an integrated numeric keypad. The keys are neatly laid out. These days the isolated keys are mostly preferred since it gives a good look and also feels more comfortable. The keys are really smooth and this over smoothness could be troublesome at times. The full size keyboard on a 17.3 inch notebook attributes to the big size keys which makes typing an easier task.

Touch Pad:

The touc hpad of the L670 is present right below the keyboard like any other notebook. The screen size being very big, it would have been better if the touch pad was quite bigger in size. As far as working with this track pad, the users will have a great time since the sensitivity and accuracy of the pad is excellent. This one supports multi-touch features and this means that the users can perform the usual multi-touch gestures like swiping, rotating and pinching. This technique would be very interesting for viewing the photos particularly. There are two mouse buttons, right and left at the bottom of the touchpad and they respond pretty well.

LED:

There are nearly 6 LEDs at the base of the notebook and they are used for indicating various statuses. Some of the indicator lights are used for battery, power, caps lock, charge indication and Wi-Fi. The charge indicator light glows orange while the notebook is under charge.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The camera is present on the top bezel of the screen and can be used for seeing the person on the other end that is for making video chats and also for conferences. The speakers are present above the keyboard on both sides and they are manufactured by Toshiba itself. Toshiba Bass Enhanced Sound System with Dolby® Advanced Audio enhances the quality of the audio and the speakers play almost all the audio formats well. But the sound quality is average only. The microphone is also present on the top area and this in combination with the camera could be used to make long time chats with friends or family any time they want from any place.

Ports:

The Toshiba Satellite L670 Notebook has a good number of ports. Toshiba has not made any sacrifices on the features of the notebook at all. On the left side, there is the fan vent, followed by the VGA, RJ45 ethernet port, HDMI, USB/eSATA port and the memory card reader. On the left side the following take positions, headphone and microphone jack, 2 USB 2.0 ports, DVD Multidrive for loading optical discs and the kensington lock port. The memory card reader can read the data from the cards like the SD, MMC, MS and MS Pro. In the front below the indicator lights there is the Express Card slot. The VGA port can be used to hook up the device to any other external monitor. With the HDMI port you can easily connect to a bigger TV. So all those who have DVDs can just pop it onto the drive and watch the movie on a bigger screen with the whole family at 1080p resolution since the HDMI port supports 1080p signal. The USB/eSATA port can be used for enabling quick transfer of the files, photos and videos among the connected devices. With the eSATA data can be transferred at a very fast rate and this port can also be used as a normal USB port to connect hardware devices.

Processor, Memory and OS:

The Toshiba Satellite L670 comes with a wide choice of Intel processors. The users can chose the particular processor as per their needs. This notebook even runs on the latest Intel Core i5 processor. This particular notebook runs on the Intel Pentium P6100 dual core processor. This processor might not be as good as the core processor but then, it has a processor speed of 2 GHz which is really good. There is the Turbo boost and Intel Hyper threading technology implemented in the L670. The turbo boost technology increases the speed of the processor and the hyper threading technology is a special feature which manages multi-tasking efficiently. It has been so designed that each core can manage two tasks at a time which means that it is a 4 way multitasking, considering that it has two cores. The memory capacity of this notebook is basically 4GB of DDR3 RAM and it can be extended up to a maximum of 8GB. The L670 comes pre-installed with the Windows 7 Premium OS and this is an OS which is very user-friendly.

Connectivity:

Both wired and wireless connections have become essential for a notebook since we can not access the wired internet connection all the time. So the Toshiba L670 provides wired internet connection by plugging in the wire to the RJ45 LAN port. The Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n supports the wireless connection. So these connections mean that the internet is at your service 24 x 7. One feature that has absented itself is the blue-tooth technology. But its absence is not realized much since there are various other means of sharing the data.

Battery:

The Toshiba Satellite L670 comes with a Li-ion rechargeable battery. The maximum battery life that the notebook can sport is nearly 4 hours and 30 min as stated by Toshiba. But then, this life time is only for very light usage and you can hardly reach this time period. Generally for normal usage the battery can survive only for 2 hours and 30 min or for a maximum of 3 hours for very mild usage. The battery life could have been even longer since this is a wide-screen notebook and watching movies or videos or working on a system for longtime travel would have been comfortable.

Performance:

This notebook scores a good grade in terms of performance. The video quality is pretty good and the audio is acceptable. The Bulletin board and the Reel Time technology implementation are one of the most interesting and helpful features. With the Bulletin Board you can stop fearing of forgetting your works since you can make a note of the works for the day or plan your schedule or stick the photos that you want. The Reel Time eases the work of searching for a file that you were working on and unable to find currently. This Reel Time keeps a record of all the files within the period of 3 months so that all that the user has to do to find the required file is to browse through it. Thus the notebook is cost-effective without any effective reduction in the features or performance.

Warranty:

The Satellite L670 has a warranty period of 1 year and all the services within this time period are, needless to say, taken care of by Toshiba.

Verdict:

The Toshiba Satellite L670 is a notebook that has good features, good looks and it is also a good performer. It is offered at a price range which is approachable for whom cost is one of the biggest factors to be considered before purchasing a laptop. This notebook will definitely satisfy the users’ expectations in all means. But the average sound quality might be a problem for all the music lovers. Other than that there is no big fault with the machine’s design and working. Now it is time to make your choice.

Notebook is one area that has an exotic range of products each differing from one another in a very unique way and every such small and unique difference makes a big deal. The Samsung RV511 is a 15.6 inch notebook that has been designed with all the users’ demands in mind. The notebook’s biggest asset is its cost! It is available at a very less price that some people might get bowled over by the product just with the price. But then cost is not only what makes your face spread wide with smile, there are many other things that this notebook has to offer. It comes with a very neat alignment of the ports. Here comes the detailed description of the product. So all those techies who have got a flair for any notebook in general or this Samsung RV511 in particular, continue reading.

Design:

“Amiable and elegant” would define the RV511. This notebook might not be completely stunning or enticing, but what it exhibits is a neat look combined with a standard metallic finish that makes it look appealing. The RV511 15.6″ notebook has brushed aluminium on the front cover with the name tag Samsung written on a row of horizontal stripes. These stripes seriously tempt us into buying the notebook. Cheers for the notebook’s looks because the dignity and elegance that it carries are truly fantasizing! But this fantasy indeed has its own flaws. The outer cover produces sound when scratched or rubbed with the fingers and this is because of its make.

The notebook is highly glossy. This glossiness though elevates the level of clarity for watching videos and playing games, makes it really difficult if you prefer to sit with your laptop in a sunny place. Moreover, the vertical viewing angles are not really very high but are just moderate. The notebook is entirely glossy or in other words, glaring, both in the inner as well as the outer side. This RV511 has a big comfy 15.6 inch screen. This screen size typically suits all those who would like to watch the movies in such big screens. Since the screen is very glossy, as long as we are in a room where the sunlight is optimum, the video clarity and the colour accuracy are perfect. This is further enhanced by the backlight LED screen. The LED screen makes the objects in the screen crystal clear. But the problem arises when you step outdoor and this is truly a warning. It must be a known fact that a 15.6 inch notebook can not be expected to be light and thin. So a weight of 2.4 kg is quite acceptable. In terms of its dimensions, the notebook measures 381.6 mm in length and 256.2 mm in breadth. The height varies from 31.9 to 34.9 mm. The native resolution is about 1366 x 768p with the aspect ratio of 16:9.

Keyboard:

The keyboard of the Samsung RV511 Notebook is one that has been very smartly designed since it makes all the users who work on it to be completely at ease. The keys are of the island-style and this layout means that the keys are well spaced and designed with the ergonomics in mind. So those who type for long hours will not experience any pain or discomfort while at work. The numeric keypad is also integrated on the right side of the board. The keys are adequately sized so that no problem would arise. The shift key has become quite tiny and the delete key’s position shifted. Thus as far as the functioning of the keys are concerned, they do a good job.

Touch pad:

A wide portion below the keyboard is occupied by the touch pad. This pad has two buttons, one for left and the other for right mouse operations. The touch pad supports multi-touch gestures, as in, the users can easily swipe the photos, pinch or flip them. The operation is smooth and never does the pad make us regret for not having an external mouse. It is simple and quite interesting to use.

LED:

There are nearly 5 LEDs right on the front side of the notebook below the touchpad. These LEDs are pretty useful as they glow even when the notebook is kept closed. The LEDs are used to indicate the status of caps lock, battery, charge, Wi-Fi and power. These light indicators are not the biggest requirements for a notebook, but all the busy workers and for whom even a second matters, the value of these tiny LEDs would be realised.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The camera is present in its usual place, on the top bezel. It is a 0.3 MP camera. While there are 1.3MP cameras in notebooks of similar range, considering the cost this is quite acceptable. Moreover there is not much of a difference in the clarity. The HD screen is an added plus point. The microphone is present right next to the camera. The notebook has two 1.5W stereo speakers. These stereo speakers are of good quality. The camera, microphone and speaker are the basic credentials of a notebook for long distance communication since with these three, you can stay in touch with anyone and at any time needed right from the place you are.

Available Ports:

The RV511 Laptop PC has a neat layout of the ports. They are distributed evenly on both the left and the right sides of the notebook. The left side includes the power port, RJ-45 ethernet LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports, VGA, HDMI, 3.5 mm headphone, 3.5mm microphone jack and the 4-in-1 digital card reader. On the right side are present, one USB 2.0 port, a multi-layer S-ATA DVD drive and a kensington lock port. There are no ports at the front side and the back side supports only the battery. With the VGA port the users can easily connect to the external monitor and thus share the data available. You can now pop in any DVD drive and watch the movies of your interest in this screen. If you are not satisfied with just 15.6 inch screen movies, then you can extend it to a 40 inch LCD TV by connecting through the HDMI port.

Connectivity:

If any notebook in the current scenario does not support the wired and wireless connection to the internet, it would become a major flop because most of the notebooks these days sport both wired as well as Wi-Fi connection. The Samsung RV511 comes with both the wired and wireless connection. So it does not matter now, whether you are at your house or in an important meeting or just chilling out with your friends, the internet is 24 x 7 yours!

Memory and Processor:

This Samsung RV511 notebook comes with the Intel Pentium dual core Processor. The Pentium is not everyone’s favorite. But it has a good speed and since it is a dual core processor the notebook can manage all the multi-tasks pretty well without getting tired. The users are provided with some choices with the processor. Samsung offers even the latest Core-i3 processor, but of course, for few extra pennies. The notebook comes with 3GB of DDR3 RAM. The hard drive capacity is about 500GB. The hard drive and the RAM memory can be expanded to about 640GB and 8GB respectively. However, for a very affordable price, this notebook should be appreciated for its processor and memory.

Battery:

The RV511 3GB RAM Memory Laptop comes with a 6 cell Lithium ion battery. This battery consumes nearly 60W of power. The battery comes separately packed in the box containing the notebook along with few other important accessories. This 15.6” screen has a decent battery life. If you put the notebook to a reasonable use then the battery sustains for nearly four hours and even more. But it drastically reduces to two hours and few minutes when it is loaded with too much of works.

Performance:

The 15.6 inch notebook is offered at a good price with very good features and performance. There are no negatives as far as the audio and video are concerned. The stereo speakers are pretty audible with good effects and the video performance is good with the LED backlit screen and HD quality. It has an Intel HM55 chipset and GMA HD for the graphics. Though they are integrated, the machine is good enough for playing all the games. For the reasonable price it is offered at, it has done a tremendously amazing job. The notebook is comparable to all the top class and expensive notebooks like the Apple’s macbook. It is a cheaper version in terms of cost and higher version in terms of the performance and in fact it is really worth every pound of it.

Warranty:

The Samsung RV511 15.6″ notebook has a warranty period of one year. This time period includes all the services for the parts and labour.

Verdict:

For some big screens are big attention grabbers, while for some it is the ports and features that attracts the product and compels them to make the product their own. This particular Samsung RV511 has both features as well as a big 15.6” screen. It offers all possible features at a very affordable price. There is nothing much to demand from the notebook once the price tag catches your eyes, but the fact is that there is nothing that the notebook does not support. Given the details, it is now time to opt for your best!

Dell Inc., a United States Company involved in the manufacture and sale of computer and computer related products and services, is one of the top most organizations for producing top products. The company for many years has been inventing devices that have brought about an evolution. The Inspiron covers a wide variety of products with varying sizes and variations in features. One in the queue is the Dell Inspiron 17R a notebook that not only has physical weight, but also has weighted appearance and features. The Inspiron 17R is a huge notebook designed mainly as a desktop replacement notebook with all the ports that a user would need. This 17R comes with many choices for the users to pick their favorite and suitable color of the notebook and they can even choose their desired processor from the choices. Read further to find out what the Dell Inspiron 17R is so proud about.

Design:

The package of the Dell Inspiron 17R 17.3 inch notebook contains the notebook along with its accessories like the battery, power plug and also the instruction and guideline books. The 17R when taken out of the box would seem very big in our hands. It is seriously very big in size and has good looks. The notebook is available in three different colours- Mars Black, Peacock blue and tomato red. All the three colours are stunningly attractive. This colour of the notebook is only for the outer cover while the inner side and the back take up the black metal finish. The metal chassis makes the notebook look great and also gives a solid feel to the users. This notebook is pretty heavy weighing nearly 3.027 Kgs. So, all those who had a plan of carrying the notebook on their backpacks should drop the idea since this notebook is a desktop replacement and is truly not ultra-portable. However, for home users this notebook would be a great choice since the notebook has attractive features and amazing looks.

The basic resolution of the screen is 1600 x 900p. This higher end of resolution is essential for a 17 inch screen since the screen size is bigger and larger pixels mean that the quality of the picture would be good. The viewing angles are quite okay and the notebook being very solid you would feel comfortable when you watch it straight without bending the notebook much. The notebook is glossy and this means that it is highly receptive to finger prints and also reflection is more that you would not be able to see the contents on the screen clearly. With a 17 inch screen notebook the users can easily watch the High Definition content in a good quality. The notebook thus has a good appearance and is available at a reasonable price.

Keyboard:

The 17 inch Inspiron 17R notebook has a big keyboard with keys that are spread evenly. The only drawback here is that Dell has allocated more area for the palm rest than for the keyboard. Of course, the size of the keys is comfortable enough for typing. But then, it is not a full sized keyboard. It comes with an integrated numeric keypad. Dell has stuck to the old model of keyboard where they are closely packed, instead of opting for the currently popular chiclet or island style notebook. As far as typing is concerned, the notebook does not give any trouble at all. There are few LEDs below the keyboard that can be used as status indicators for knowing the status of Wi-Fi, caps lock and the like. Overall, the keyboard of the Dell Inspiron 17R might not be one of the best, but it is definitely good.

Touch Pad:

The touchpad of the Dell Inspiron 17R notebook is positioned below the keyboard. This trackpad is quite big and has two buttons at the bottom for performing the left and right mouse button operations. This pad is slightly lowered to differentiate from the rest of the palm rest area. The operation is quite smooth.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The usual position of the camera and microphone in any notebook is basically the top bezel, above the screen. So this notebook too has them in the same place. The two 2W stereo speakers with SRS premium sound are present on the base part of the notebook and these speakers produce good sound effects. The quality of the audio is good and there are no disturbances or noises. So, you can hear what the speaker on the other end talks very clearly and our voice and video too reaches the other end clearly. Though the quality is not really excellent, as a 17.3 inch screen, it has done justice.

Ports:

This Dell Inspiron 17R Laptop is a very big one and so it has its ports evenly and widely distributed on the back, right and left sides of the machine. The ports on the left side are USB, fan vent, headphone jack, microphone jack, HDMI and 7-in-1 multi-card reader. The HDMI card is used to connect your notebook to a HD TV. Already the screen is a big 17 inch one. You can further enhance the fun you get in watching your favorite movies by hooking that to a big screen TV. With the multi-card reader, you can share all the fun that you had by just inserting the card into the reader. This card reader can read many types of cards like the SD, SDHC, MMC, MS, MS Pro and more. The right side has the following succession of ports, Kensington lock port, RJ45 ethernet LAN port, USB and an optical drive. One great thing about the optical drive is that the users have a choice of extending its performance, that is, they have a choice to use a drive that would read not only the CDs/DVDs but also the Blu-ray discs! So users can now watch the HD contents in a big 17 inch notebook at the comfort of their home. Very few notebooks go in for ports on the back. This Inspiron 17R has a power port, two USB ports and most importantly the VGA on the rear side. The VGA is very important for connecting the notebook to an external monitor. The notebook has 4 USB ports, out of which 3 are USB 2.0 ports while one is a combo eSATA port. The eSATA port means faster transfer of data and this means that you need not have to wait for a long time for transferring your data. Thus the notebook has a good number of ports distributed with good spacing between each port, so that there would be no trouble even if you want to connect multiple ports at the same time.

Processor, Memory and OS:

The Dell 17R Laptop notebook comes with one of the best processors at present, the Intel Core i3-380M processor. The core i3, as everyone knows, is a dual core processor that is known for managing multi-tasks pretty efficiently. It is a high speed processor and the users would not launch any complaints against this one. The Intel core processors handle the tasks not only at good pace, but also very clearly and neatly. The notebook comes with a 3GB of DDR3 RAM. For a 17 inch notebook this 3GB is acceptable and it can be expanded though. The hard drive memory is nearly 320GB and can be extended up to 500GB. The hard drive capacity would be sufficient enough to store all the required data files on cloud. The device runs on the Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System. Windows is the world-wide accepted user interface. The friendliness of this OS is well recognized by the people and that is the main reason why most of the notebooks these days go in for the Windows operating system. So, as far as the processor, memory and OS are concerned, a credible job well done indeed.

Connectivity:

The Dell Inspiron 17R Widescreen notebook includes the RJ45 ethernet wired internet connection as well as the wireless fidelity Wi-Fi 802.11n. It is very rare to find a notebook that supports only the wired connection to access the net because such is the importance of the net. The current generation have grown to be dependent on the internet to such an extent that their presence has become vital for survival. The users can plug in their cable to the RJ 45 port to access the internet instantly or enjoy the wireless service.

Battery:

The Inspiron 17R comes packed with a 6 cell Lithium ion battery. It is rechargeable and the notebook becomes heavier with the battery. This Dell notebook being a desktop replacement with a big 17 inch screen, there would be quite a lot of expectations from the users. But unfortunately the notebook does not provide excellent battery life; Dell should have worked more on this part. The battery sustains its life only for a mere 3 hours and few minutes or to a maximum of nearly 4 hours only when the tasks are less. But the number of hours reduces drastically to an hour and few minutes when the notebook is put to intense use. This said, it should be understood that the notebook is not suitable for long hour journeys. So, travelers, think twice! For other home users, this below average battery life would not be a big deal.

Performance:

Dell has always given products that are good not only in its features, but also sports good performance. The audio and video are good. The screen is a big 17 inch, which means that watching videos would be a great pleasure. Moreover, the speaker is a good one so no trouble there too. The heat produced by the notebook is not much pronounced as long as the notebook is under very light use. The noise from the fan vent too goes unnoticed as long as the system is for use for a short time for simple tasks. The notebook has a very poor battery life. It drops down to a very bad 1 hour and few minutes while watching High Definition videos or while playing games. The Dell Inspiron 17R therefore might not be an excellent performer while considering the battery, but otherwise the notebook is a good performer.

Warranty:

The Dell Inspiron 17R comes with a standard one year warranty for the services of parts and labor.

Verdict:

The Dell Inspiron 17R is a notebook that has good design and a pretty big screen. It has its ports distributed evenly on the sides as well as at the back. Its biggest flaw is its below average battery life. But apart from that the notebook contains all that a 17 inch screen notebook should have. The positives are great while the negatives are just little. So if the positives go unnoticed when compared to the negatives then pick another one. The notebook is a good choice for big screen lovers who wish to spend their money correctly for the right notebook. Make your choice.

The screen is live! You touch the screen for a particular operation on the notebook and there it is done. This might have been hypothetical few years back, but then, now it has become a reality. The touch screen technology is one of the most interesting and innovative technology and it has a great potential to take the laptops and notebooks to a higher level. But then the touch screens can be a nuisance too at times. While multi-touch gestures are still absent in some of the very cheap notebooks, this idea taken to the screen is something worth applauding. Acer aspire 5738PG is a notebook that goes with the touch screen technology and has some other interesting features too. It is Acer’s first touch screen notebook. The price tag is acceptable, considering that fact that it can perform all the actions in just a touch. Acer’’s products are known for its good appearance and decent performance. They have never been a total failure and this implies the company’s quality. To know if this notebook is really worth owning then do not stop, continue reading.

Design:

The box contains the notebook, charger and the battery. The 15.6″ Aspire 5738PG Notebook looks attractive. It is a typical acer product at sight with the acer tag mark on the outer cover and cool appearance. The cool appearance extends to the glossiness too. The notebook is too glossy that gives it not only a charming look but also has a big disadvantage, glare. The viewing angles are pretty good, but then beyond a particular level, it becomes difficult to even see what is happening on the screen.

The width of the 5738PG is 383 mm, while the depth is 250 mm. The height varies between 26 and 37 mm. The weight of the machine is about 2.8 Kg, almost the same as many of its other kith, the 5740. The notebook is not really heavy and the native resolution of the screen is about 1366 x 768p. The aspect ratio of the screen is 16:9. The notebook provides the users amazing video and picture quality. Since this is a 15 inch screen, the notebook would be great for watching movies or videos particularly.

Keyboard:

The keyboard of the Acer aspire 5738PG touchscreen Notebook Computer is quite appreciable with an integrated numeric keypad. There are all the keys, but then, the only minus point is that the keys are of the normal type, that is, they are not of the isolated or chiclet type. Currently the island style keyboard is pretty popular and also in the users good books. There are some special keys above and below the keyboard. There are the LEDs for indicating various statuses, beneath the keyboard and beside the touchpad. There are some keys above the keyboard for the bluetooth and wireless connectivity. There is the key for choosing a particular favorite program so that it can be used at an instant without any waste of time and this feature is pretty cool. On the right side above the keyboard there is the power saving button and this mode is actually nice because this mode saves the power and protects not us when the power in the notebook is less, but also saves the economy.

Touch Pad:

The product being a touch notebook, it might seem as though the track pad will not be of much use. But then the fact is that, at times, the users might feel that the trackpad is way better than the touch screen. This touchpad is wide enough and is interesting to use. The horizontal scrolling space is on the right side. At the bottom of the touchpad are two mouse buttons, the left and the right. Between the two, there is a very useful feature, the finger print reader. This can be a boon for those who often tend to forget their passwords or are in a hurry and want to shut down in just a swipe. The finger print reader can be used for logging in or out. This proves very useful and not many notebooks support this feature. The touch pad possesses multi-touch features and now this might not seem a big fact because the screen itself allows multi-touch gestures. So with the trackpad can move, flip and swipe through anything that we want to on the notebook.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The Acer Aspire 5738PG Laptop has the Acer Crystal Eye webcamera inbuilt on the top bezel of the screen. The microphone can be found right next to the camera and the clarity is good indeed. The notebook has integrated speakers and the audio quality is really good too. The camera vision is great and the users can easily connect and have a really good video chat with anyone they wish to with this notebook.

Ports:

The 15.6″ touch screen notebook has a pleasing number of ports present in it. The ports are placed on the left, right as well as on the front. The ports that take their place on the left hand side are, jack for adapter, RJ-45 Ethernet port, HDMI, VGA, 2 USB 2.0 ports, line out and the microphone jack and the in jacks. On the front side are present the 5-in-1 multi-in-one card reader. This card reader is capable of reading the contents of the cards of the type SD, MMC, MS, MS PRO, xD. With the HDMI the users can easily connect to a HD TV and with the VGA they can connect to any external monitor. The right side has the following ports, Kensington lock port, Modem, Optical drive and two more USB 2.0 ports. A sum total of 4 USB ports is something great because it will be quite useful when one has to work on data from different hard drives at the same time and so here we can use the data on four hard drives at the same time with the help of these four USB ports. Moreover, there is the 8X optical DVD writer for playing the CDs or DVDs. Thus the notebook has a good number of ports and offers all these at a price which is definitely worth the buy.

Touch Portal Interface:

An interesting interface that Acer has brought in for its users is this Touch Portal Interface. This interface is quite simple and easy to use because in this interface the users can see photos or videos. The users can also play some games. This is Acer’s own software and it should be added that it is definitely a good one.

Processor, Memory and OS:

Intel has become the breath of all the notebooks these days. Yes, Intel is the universal processor used by almost all the notebook manufacturers these days. This Aspire 5738PG uses the Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor with a speed of 2.2 GHz. It is prompt and speedy indeed. Particularly the touch feature is not messy at all. The Google Earth was awesome to use and the screen easily yielded to even the lightest touch on the screen.

Connectivity:

Wired and wireless technologies are both supported in this notebook. Plug in to the RJ-45 Ethernet port and you will find yourself accessing the net in just few seconds or if you want wireless connection there is the 802.11 a/b/g/n. So no matter whether you are in a coffee shop taking a sip of the hot coffee or at your home seated comfortably in your couch, the internet is all yours now, 24 x 7.

Battery:

The Aspire 5738PG notebook is provided with a 6 cell rechargeable Li-ion battery. It is a 4400mAh battery and the product is said to support life for nearly 3 hours. But then the time falls down though, to about 2 hours and few grace minutes and dies away. The battery life is not really excellent because there are many other notebooks which provide double the amount of battery life than this 5738PG. The tag that it is a touch screen notebook hides the very average battery life.

Performance:

The notebook has an excellent feature, the touch screen. All those who love touch screen, will definitely like this notebook because it is good enough. The operating system it supports is of Windows 7 and not its own. But Windows OS is used worldwide so no complaints at all in its performance. The audio clarity is quite good. There are no options for bass but then not many notebooks support it, so it is not a problem at all. The picture clarity is quite good, but then there are few grains visible when it is zoomed in to a higher level. The notebook is HD ready and this obviously means that the standard of video quality would be good.

Warranty:

Acer Aspire 5738PG, the touch screen model has the usual one year International Traveler’s Warranty.

Verdict:

The Acer Aspire 5738PG is the first step for Acer into the field of Touch Screen. For its first trial, the notebook is good indeed. It has great number of ports, touch screen and what not it has good audio and video quality too. For all those who thought multi-touch gestures would stop with just the trackpad, this notebook shows how amazing it is to use the touch screen for all the other actions too and direct contact is made between the finger and the screen. The price at which this notebook is offered is of the right measure. It has all the features with few adjustable flaws. So buyers, this might not be a brilliant innovation but it is indeed a smart invention.

HP notebooks are known for their classic looks and first class features and not even a single product has been spoken of otherwise. With such quality and performance, the United States based company could be proudly announced as one of the top international companies in the world that provide the world with products that capture not only the minds but also the hearts of the people. Among the G series notebooks, HP G62-400 is a 15.6″ notebook that has been brought out for the home users and also for others who are in search for a neat notebook that can manage all their works and help them stay relaxed. This notebook is not an extra ordinary creation or something to marvel at. But this notebook has the entire features essential that would satisfy any trivial man. Are you interesting in checking whether this notebook would best suit you? Read further and check it out.

Design:

The HP G62-400 Notebook PC has the “HP” label on the front cover that proves it is a product of the Hewlett Packard. This is a 15.6 inch notebook designed with a look that is not really eye catchy but is decent. The notebook is available in three colours, Biscotti, black and silver with the prism design. Its looks are similar to the apple macbook, very similar that when you look at the notebook suddenly you might think it is indeed the Apple notebook in front of you. But then, it lacks the elegance of its high range counterpart. The notebook is pretty glossy on the inner side which means it welcomes the finger prints. So the notebook needs delicate handling since it is not very friendly to the fingers. But then exterior does not really attract the imprints, so there is positively no problem that way. If there could be some minor problem in the design of the notebook, it is while opening the notebook. It can be quite hard when they try to open up the notebook, because it is not really easy to separate them with a single hand. So you will find yourself getting irritated if you try to open the notebook with just one hand while the other is preoccupied. But then, Practice makes a man perfect. So by practice you can get over this problem.

The resolution of the G62-400 is 1366 x 768p which is good enough for a 15.6 inch notebook. The notebook measures 24.6 cm in length, 37.4 cm in width while the height may vary from 3.18 cm to 3.68 cm. It weighs about 2.5 Kg and this weight is not really heavy for a notebook of this size. So the users can carry it around without much trouble. The viewing angles are good but then when it bends a little higher, the clarity of the objects in the screen decreases which makes it difficult for the users to read. Since the screen is a big one, the users can comfortably watch their favorite videos or movies on this notebook.

Full Featured Keyboard:

The keyboard of this particular notebook is a full sized one without an integrated numeric keypad. This is no big deal because we can always use the number keys on top to type them. If the keyboard had been of the chiclet style, it would have looked better. Also since the notebook is a 16 inch one, the keyboard is quite big and the keys are comfortable enough for the users to type on. The unique feature in the build of this keyboard is that there is a row of 6 keys on the left side that help for quick access of certain functions. Overall the keyboard is okay with neither big negatives nor big positives.

The Touch pad:

The track pad of this HP G62-400 15.6 inch notebook is below average. The main problem with this touchpad is that there is no difference between the touchpad and the general palm rest area. This can be so difficult at times when the user tries to move the cursor while looking at the screen. The entire area below the keyboard is equally flat. Also there is the single button that performs both the left and right operations. The user has to click the left most side of the button to do the left mouse operations and the right end of the button to perform the right click operations. Few users have no problem with this single button system while there are many who completely dislike it, personal opinion vary. There is the scroll bar on the right side of the touch pad and that again is difficult to locate because of the even surface. Unfortunately this HP G62-400 does not support multi-touch features. This is a big disadvantage because most of the notebooks these days support the multi touch features. But then, the touch pad has does the best of what it can in terms of its performance.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The HP G62-400 laptop notebook comes inbuilt with camera, microphone and speakers and all of them are indeed good. Camera is the biggest asset of any notebook because it is this one that bridges the gap between people who are far away and they can actually still stay in touch and see each other any time they want. It is positioned on the top bezel of the screen. The microphone is integrated and it does a decent job. The G62-400 comes with the Altec lansing speakers. Now this means that the users will have no problem with the audio clarity while watching movies because the audio as well as the sound effects would be crystal clear.

Ports Available:

The HP G62-400 has a number of ports available on both the left and right sides of the notebook. On the right side are present these ports, Kensington Lock, Power port, USB 2.0 and a Lightscribe optical drive. The ports on the left side are VGA, HDMI, RJ45 Ethernet port, two USB 2.0 ports, headphone and microphone jacks and a 5-in-1 multi-card reader. This good number of ports helps the notebook get a decent score. There are nearly 3 USB 2.0 ports and that is something nice. But then if one of the USB ports had been an eSATA port, it would have been better. The lightscribe DVD drive is great news for all those who are hooked up to the movies because given a 15.6 inch screen; they can easily watch them by playing the DVD in their notebook. A point to notice here is that this disc drive does not support blu ray discs. The Kensington lock port makes us feel secure. The multi card reader can read the data from five types of memory cards like SD, SDHC, etc, With the VGA it is possible to watch the contents of your notebook on a bigger monitor while by plugging into the HDMI, the users can easily watch on the bigger screen of the TVs and all these promises are true.

Connectivity:

It is almost ages since the Internet found its invention and its development is tremendous. Now this internet has grown even further with the help of the wireless technology. Most of the notebooks these days come with both wired and wireless connections these days and so does this HP G62-400. There is the RJ 45 port as said earlier for browsing the net anytime you are in need of it, and all you have to do to get connected to the internet is to plug in the cable. But as we all know, it is not always possible to access the net via the wired connection. Here comes the wireless connection to help us and this particular notebook supports the protocol 108.11 b/g/n. So with the internet you can do anything you want, right from watching your favorite videos or downloading them on to your notebook to updating your status in facebook in just few seconds.

Memory and Processor:

This Hewlett Packard product comes packed with good processor as well as memory. The Intel core i3/i5 processor helps the notebook perform its tasks and about 3GB of DDR3 RAM. The speed of the core i3 processor is about 2.26MHz and it is pretty fast. The hard drive capacity is about 320GB and it could be extended to a maximum of 500GB. This quantity would well suffice for storing all the necessary contents.

Battery:

The HP G62-400 laptop computer runs on a 6 cell Li-ion battery and the battery is rechargeable. This battery does not protrude at the back and this means that the users would have no problem while resting the notebook on any surface. Considering the battery life, the notebook lasts for a maximum of 5 hours and few minutes if you use it for doing very light works, and by light works, it should be understood that the works we do with the notebook should be very simple and strain less, for instance, like just working on MS word. The battery life drastically reduces to about 3 hours and even lesser to very less 2 hours if the processor does the works that drains the notebook out.

Performance:

The notebook is Energy Star qualified which means that the notebook is harmless to the environment. This notebook is only an average performer as far as the games are concerned because it does not come with a separate graphics card. But other than that, the processor does a good job in the field of audio and video performance. With a resolution of 1366 x 768p the users can watch any movies they want, any number of times on the screen comfortably with good clarity. The speakers are good too. There could be no problem with the processor because it is an Intel product. The core i3 processor is good enough in managing multitasks at a good pace giving no trouble to the user. Thus the HP G62-400 is a good performer indeed, a good performer with limited capabilities.

Warranty:

The warranty time period for this HP G62-400 notebook is 1 year and HP would take up the responsibility to set things right if any problem occurs to the product within this time period of international warranty. This time period can however be extended to nearly 3 years, at few extra charges, obviously.

Verdict:

The HP G62-400 is a notebook with dignified looks, good features and good performance. It has few falls in certain areas and those flaws go unnoticed when the notebook is used by the users for very optimal use. The notebook is laudable for its good audio and video performance. It has all the essential ports. This notebook might not be for the game freaks because it does not reach up to the expectations in that aspect. But apart from that, it sports out so many goodies. It would be liked by all the entry level users while there might be disappointments spotted on the faces of the high level users. Given the plus and the minus, it is now up to you to decide whether to go in for the product because of the plus or put it away considering the minus.

Toshiba Satellite A665 is a 15.6″ notebook which has something that immediately grabs the attention, 3D capability. Toshiba is one of the countable companies that have put its thoughts into action, making 3D vision not only possible but also making it a big hit. So, all the 24 x 7 gamers would love this product as this has been targeted for them indeed. Those days are gone, when there was lot to study, know and wonder about 2D. Now it is all over, and it is long since we moved into the 3D world. This concept of 3D vision is not only inquisitive and interesting, it is also exciting. Toshiba has implemented this 3D in this notebook. This notebook has so many promising features that ought to take it to a higher level than it seems. This notebook is a big leap for Toshiba, not only for having taken a bold move into 3D, but also for including so many features that are not present in all the notebooks currently. Here is what Toshiba Satellite A665 is all about, read and find.

Design:

The A665 3DV is a 15.6 inch notebook that carries a neat external appearance. This notebook is a black one made of gun-metal plastic. It looks stylish with a modern outfit. If the exterior is good, the interior side of the notebook is equally good too. The notebook has a width of 379 mm, height of 24 mm and depth of 35 mm. The notebook weighs nearly 2.9 Kg without the battery. The main and important feature of this notebook is 3D vision. The 3D package includes the shutter glass, IR emitter, USB 2.0 and Rechargeable cable. The 3D kit is easy to install and even more easy to use. The resolution of this notebook is 1366 x 768p and the aspect ratio is 16:9. The screen is HD TruBrite TFT LCD display.

Keyboard:

The keyboard of the Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV Notebook is the chiclet or island style keyboard where the keys are separated or isolated from each other by a small distance. The keys are very smooth and the operation is smooth. The keyboard has backlight which comes in very handy when the keyboard is used when the light in the room is very little or when we watch movies with the lights switched off. The keyboard has an integrated numeric keypad and the size of the keys is comfortable to type on.

Easy Control Buttons:

The easy control buttons are present right above the keyboard. The control keys present are, Power, eco-utility key, Wi-Fi, key to switch on the backlit on the keyboard, play/pause, mute, volume up and down. These keys are immensely useful because when the user is using many applications the necessity to stop a particular application to reduce or increase the volume is absent. The users need not disturb the other running applications. They can comfortably do the required changes with just a touch.

Touch Pad:

The touch pad of the A665 is positioned right below the keyboard and has two buttons, left and right mouse button at its base. Touch pad is not grumpy while using it. Touchpads can be a nuisance while typing, that is, we unknowingly tend to click on the button or the track pad. To avoid this, there is the enable/disable touchpad button above the touchpad which can be used to turn on or off the touchpad as and when needed. This pad also supports multi touch gestures which mean that the users can delightfully watch the photos just with their fingers, swipe through the photos or pinch to zoom in or out of the photos. The touchpad has given its best.

LED:

There are nearly 7 LEDs positioned on the base right corner of the keyboard. These LEDs indicate the status or use of the mouse, power, battery, caps lock, Wi-Fi and the like.

Camera and Speaker:

The Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV 3D Laptop has the web camera integrated on the top bezel of the screen. The special feature of this notebook is that it has the Harman/kardon stereo speakers integrated. These speakers make watching the movies or videos a pleasure. With the integrated camera and speaker, the whole world is in your hands, since you can connect to anyone at anytime.

Ports:

The Satellite A665-3DV 15.6 inch Laptop Notebook has a good number of ports located mostly on the left and right sides. The ports on the left side are VGA for connecting to external monitor, RJ45 Ethernet for wired internet connection, HDMI for connecting to HD TVs, a 34mm Express card slot and beneath it are situated a USB 2.0 port and an eSATA port. The ports on the right side are microphone and headphone jack, two USB 2.0 ports and an optical drive. On the front there is the 5-in-1 card reader. This card can read the contents from cards like SD, SDXC, xD, SDHC, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro. A stupendous news is that the optical drive can read blu-ray discs too. Now this is awesome because hardly countable number of notebooks support blu-ray discs (though still there are notebooks that do not even have an optical drive) and moreover, the drive has the ability to rewrite the discs. The eSATA port is a chargeable port, that is it is the sleep and charge port. This means that the electronic devices like mobile or mp3 player can be charged while the notebook is switched off, which is wonderful. So, overall 4 USB ports, Bluray/ DVD drive plus the HDMI and VGA ports make it an excellent piece of machine.

Processor, Memory and OS:

The Toshiba A665 3DV is a notebook aimed for gamers and 3D lovers. In that case, the basic criteria is that the notebook should be very swift in doing the jobs. The notebook has Intel core i7-740QM processor which offers a speed of 1.73 GHz normally and with the Intel Turbo boost technology the speed increases to about 2.93 GHz. The processor being Intel made, the performance is good. The notebook is a real gift while playing normal or 3D games with the glasses on. The 4GB of DDR3 RAM is a good number and is sufficient too. To store all the data, of any kind, be it music or video or any other type, the notebook comes with 640GB of memory. To make things even smoother, the operating system is Windows 7. Thus the notebook has good features combined to make it work.

Connectivity:

You can connect to the internet at any time either through the wired connection by plugging in the RJ45 ethernet port or via the wireless connection. The wired connection is not always possible. So there is the wireless connection to help the users stay connected at all times. The WLAN 802.11 b/g/n makes it possible. Internet connection is not a big deal these days since most of the machines come with them but then, it is indeed vital to mention their presence.

Battery:

The battery of the Satellite A665 has turned out to be the biggest possible mistake of the notebook. The 12 cell 98Whr Lithium ion battery has faltered so much that its value drops down steeply. This battery protrudes at the rear side of the notebook and this itself is a big nuisance. The bigger size would have gone unnoticed if and if only the notebook had served the purpose. But then, alas, the notebook’s survival time is very poor. If the notebook is put to normal use like any notebook, it sustains nearly 4 hours. But then once you are into gaming and stuff like that, the battery time is very less, goes down to nearly 2 hours and few minutes, and sometimes even less than that. This is something intolerable. Toshiba could have taken more care on the battery because; the fact that this is a 12 cell battery also counts in determining its life time.

Performance:

The Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV is a notebook that was designed with a particular field in mind, “Gaming” and to make this gaming all the more interesting Toshiba sought 3D. Yes the machine does a great work in 3D. It has the NVIDIA GeForce GTS350M with 1GB GDDR3. NVIDIA produces good effects. You will not know that you are only playing in a virtual world, but will find yourself immersed so much in the world of 3D; such is the quality and also its performance. But then the notebook lags behind in a very important aspect, battery life. As already said, the battery fails to sustain for 4 hours while playing 3D games or watching 3D movies. But then the quality of 3D is utterly amazing. The audio and video quality is equally good particularly with the kardon/Harman speakers as said earlier and the ability of the notebook to play in the native 720p resolution. The HD videos are also crystal clear. So the Satellite A665-3DV notebook receives an A+ in its performance, battery life excluded.

Warranty:

The international warranty time period for the parts, labour and also battery is 1 complete year.

Verdict:

If you search for 3D notebooks currently available in the market, you will have only a handful of notebooks. A665-3DV is one among the listed few which has all the features that a notebook can currently offer at a price that it is worth for. It has blue ray supported optical drive, HDMI, VGA, eSATA and 3 USB 2.0 ports and many other good features. Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV is a notebook that gives a great 3D performance and good audio and video quality. For what it has not achieved when there are many others out there to have accomplished the same perfectly, thumbs down. But for what it has ventured, when most of the companies have not even attempted, hats off. It is time you make your choice.
